Answers

The correct carved wooden panel is on the left. On the panel to the right you will note that:

1. The donkeys head is missing. A donkey and an ox are portrayed close to the manger. These animals are symbolic of simple goodness and submission.
2. The arm of the shepherd with the basket of fruit on his head is down by his side. In the story from the Christian Bible of the birth of the baby Jesus, the shepherds from the fields were the first to pay homage to the new baby.
3. The dove who hovers over the scene. has been moved up higher. The dove represents the Holy Ghost in this representation of Mary, Joseph and the baby, Jesus.
